Today watch Steve Jobs' commencement speech to Stanford in 2005. You only have to watch the first 6 minutes, but you are welcome to watch it all if you wish. In the beginning, he talks about two things. The first is the reasons why he went to college, why he dropped out, and what he learned from simply attending classes. He also talks about the powering of looking back at these choices and what he learned. He says, "I could only connect the dots by looking back." The second video talks about the process of reflective writing. This is looking back and connecting the dots on previous writing in order to improve future writing. Finally read, "What I wish I knew as a Freshman." This short essay by a Harvard freshman addressed to future Harvard freshman where the writer hopes that his experience of connecting the dots will enhance the experience for the next group of students.
For your blog post reflect on your last blog post or long reader response. What process did you follow to create that post? Who was your attended audience? Did you do any pre-writing? How do you think this effected the post? How did you choose your topic? How did you choose your organizational strategy? Was this strategy effective? Going forward what would you do differently?
Finally, your second two page reader response is due Saturday by 11:59. Please try to synthesize thoughts from more than one reading and/or video. To do this I would look for a quotes or ideas that are somehow connected, think and write about this connection. The response must have a common theme or thesis. It needs to be typed in Word (or as a PDF) and emailed to me.
