When I think about some of the obstacles I overcame as a student in order to graduate I think about the year my dad died two weeks after the semester began and how hard it was to focus on my studies. I knew how important it was to my dad that I finish school though, so I did my best. My grades weren't the greatest; I was tired and grouchy for six months; BUT I finished the semester and the next one in order to graduate on time.
On a less serious note, I also think about times where I needed help with school. Like many, I hated the idea of seeking out tutoring. In one class in particular though, I really wanted to do well. After my first failed exam, I went to the tutoring center to arrange for a tutor. I was embarrassed because my tutor was a classmate of mine from other classes. It was awkward. But once again, I thought about how important it was for me to graduate. I swallowed my pride and met with my tutor every week. I ended up with a B+ in the class. I also learned that asking for help and swallowing my pride was easier than failing.

After watching the video, please write a short paragraph about an obstacle you have overcome to be where you are today. Also, think about a possible obstacle that may come up in the fall when school starts. These can be things like work/school schedule conflicts, car problems, etc. Please write a short paragraph about how you might handle this obstacle to stay focused on school.
